A
Woman in Wine
Kris wrote about making wine in the Lompoc "Wine Ghetto"
for the Lompoc Valley Magazine:
"Lompoc, once a temperance community, is now home to
numerous wineries producing arguably some of the best wines
in the country, and therein lies the irony. The fact that
women initiated this very radical act to eliminate alcohol
from their comunity and that women now make up a good percentage
of the workforce in our local wineries shows a dynamic change
in societal attitudes and a fortunate realization that wine
is unavoidably becoming part of the fabric of our culture."

Grenache Blanc
Very pale color. Melon, honeysuckle and flowers on the nose.
Juicy and bright, with some CO2 intensifying the peach,
grapefruit and floral flavors. This delightful white wine
offers a leesy immediacy, and lovely cut and freshness.
A perfect wine for warm-weather drinking, and an amazing
thing to do with grenache blanc. 90 points.
"In
addition to her stunning Pinots from Sea Smoke, Kris makes
her addition to the seemingly endless supply of fantastic
Rhone wines offered at this year’s Futures Tasting
through her Curran label wines. With her vibrant and floral
Curran Grenache Blanc, Kris seems to capture summer in a
wine glass and her bold Syrah from the tiny “Reeves”
vineyard in the heart of the San Ynez valley shows that
Kris’ ability to make great wine extends far beyond
Pinot. "

In
an article entitled "Wooing women with 'girlie' wine
" about low-calorie, low-alcohol wines marketed specifically
at women, the International Herald Tribune quoted
Kris:
"Not surprisingly, the very notion
of a woman's wine has already generated a mini-backlash.
'I find it demeaning,' said Kris Curran, of Curran Wines
in the Santa Rita Hills, near Santa Barbara. 'It's implying
that women don't have as sophisticated a palate.'"
